World Bank Updates Global Poverty Line in a Changing World
The World Bank has raised the poverty line from $2.15/day to $6.85/day, reflecting substantial progress in reducing global poverty. In 1990, a third of the population lived on $2.15/day, while now, 56% live on $6.85/day or more, and less than 9% live below $2.15/day. Despite a global population increase of over 50%, poverty rates have dramatically fallen—a sign of optimism in global development. Read more here.
